In the early 20th century, electricity was a symbol of progress and the advent of a new era. This is evidenced by the Podspálov hydroelectric power plant that was built between 1921 and 1926 according to a design by architect Emil Králiček. The construction was performed by Prague company Ing. Nejedlý, Řehák a spol. The equipment and machinery of the water gates and bridges was provided by Bratři Prášilové a spol. from Prague, the turbines were supplied by Breitfeld and Daněk from Blansko and the electrical equipment for the switching station by F. Křižík.

The drive to the power plants runs from the weir near the gallery through a 1,323-metre-long and a 437-metre-long brick canal. In 1998, the power plant underwent a general redevelopment in order to maintain its uniqueness, authenticity and beauty and restore its power, youth and freshness. The project eventually succeeded, largely because everyone who had anything to do with the redevelopment of the power plant did so with a certain amount of respect and humbleness. The power plant still serves its original purpose and, moreover, is admired as an architectural gem on the Riegerova Trail from Semily to Podspálov. The hydroelectric power plant is an example of how technology can almost be in perfect symbiosis with nature.

Tours of the power plant are only possible subject to previous telephone arrangements at least 14 days in advance by calling +420 482 127 311 (Monday through Friday between 10:00 and 2:00 pm); tours take place on weekdays for groups with a minimum of 15 people.
