Jizera Mountains

Tanvald

A pleasant hiking trip with children with many destinations along the route.
Course of the route:
At the train station in Tanvald, get on a train and drive along the cog railway to Kořenov. Here you can visit the cog railway museum. Follow the blue tourist sign around Lesní chata to Kořenov - Příchovice to Motorest. Keep following the blue to the crossroads below Hvězda - from there follow the green to the Štěpánka lookout tower. After unforgettable views of the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains, follow the blue tourist sign to Příchovice to the Lighthouse and the Jára Cimrman Museum and the adjacent forest park with children's elements. Then follow the yellow tourist sign of the Tanvald sightseeing circuit to the Šulík's rock lookout. Keep following the yellow road until you come across the road from Český Šumburk (cycle route no. 4248), which will take you to the housing estate in Šumburk and you will get back to the train station via Vítězná Street.
Attractions on the route:
Cog railway Tanvald-Desná-Kořenov-Harrachov-Szklarska Poręba The only cog railway in the Czech Republic is a unique cultural and technical monument. The Jizera Mountains-Giant Mountains railway is the steepest and only normally gauge cog railway in the Czech Republic. Using the cog of the Abt system, the train climbs 235 meters higher to only 7 km. http://www.zubacka.cz/ Lighthouse - light in the sea of gray reality The lookout tower of Jára Cimrman bears the symbolic name Lighthouse, it is supposed to be a kind of imaginary and saving light in the sea of gray reality. The wooden building at a height of 785 m above sea level was due in 2013 to the Association of Municipalities of the Tanvaldsko Microregion and the Jára Cimrman Theater. The pine lighthouse is 24 meters high, the height of the viewing platform is 17 meters. More here: https://ucapa.eu/cz/muzeum/prehledne-informace.html Šulík's rock The rocky lookout on Šulík's rock offers a view of the eastern part of the Černostudniční ridge, the Kamenice valley, the Tanšina settlement in Výšina (behind it is the Špičák hill - 808 m above sea level). In the background we see the town of Smržovka, south of Velké Hamry and in the distance the ridge of Kozákov. It is about 2.5 km away from Tanvald in the direction of Český Šumburk. We come across it while climbing Jírův kopec (746 m). This natural rock view on a massive rocky promontory was secured by Tanvald tourists by railing only in 1974, and is therefore one of the lesser-known ones. Its name is probably related to the nickname of the former inhabitants, who were said to have been "crazy" during card games. The nearby group of buildings is even popularly called "Šulíkov".
